Tour #2 – Second Life Systems: Tires and CRD Reimagined*

Tour Host: Christy Lyon, CELyon Consulting Inc.

Explore how materials are recovered and repurposed through innovative recycling processes at Crumb Rubber Manufacturers (CRM) and ECCO Recycling and Energy Corporation. At CRM, delegates will see how end-of-life tires are collected, sorted, and processed into Tire-Derived Aggregate (TDA), as well as granulated and crumb rubber products. The tour continues at ECCO’s Balzac facility, where commercial and industrial materials are sorted and processed for reuse and recycling, supporting new pathways for material diversion.

*PPE required: please bring a high visibility vest and safety glasses

Tour #3 – Turning Shingles into Solutions*

Featuring asphalt recycling innovations with Calgary, Northstar Clean Technologies, and Razphalt. Explore how end-of-life asphalt shingles are being recovered and transformed into new materials. At Northstar’s Calgary scale-up facility, see how shingles are converted into reusable liquid asphalt with significant emissions reductions. At Razphalt, learn how recycled shingles are turned into durable road surfaces used in real-world infrastructure.

*Mandatory safety certification will be required (we will send a link for you to complete online).
*PPE Required including steel-toed boots, hardhat and glasses.

Tour #4 – Calgary Music & Culture Walking Tour

Are you interested in a tour that focuses more on culture and local landmarks?
Join us on this walking tour to the Studio Bell National Music Centre where we will explore the sights, sounds, and stories of music in Canada. Dive deeper into Canada’s music history and explore the National Music Centre’s collections, exhibitions, and studios in this chance to see how music is made and experience one-of-a-kind instruments in action. (12 min walk from Palliser to Studio Bell)
After the tour, we will stop at the historic King Eddy for a pint before heading back to the hotel.

 

Tour #5 – The Amazing Goodwill Impact Centre* and Outlet Store

Go behind the scenes at Goodwill’s Calgary Impact Centre, where donated goods are sorted, repaired, repurposed, and redistributed. This centralized facility brings together reuse, recycling, and retail operations to extend the life of materials and keep valuable items out of landfill. See how donations are processed and prepared for resale, and how the outlet store creates access to a constantly changing selection of affordable items. The tour also highlights Goodwill’s social impact, connecting Albertans with disabilities to meaningful employment through hands-on training, skills development, and inclusive job opportunities.

Transportation is provided and will depart the hotel at 2:00 pm (meet at the front entrance around 1:45 pm). Tour is approximately one hour.
